Sandburg volleyball sweeps Black Hawk for 6th win in 4 days

GALESBURG — The Sandburg volleyball team wrapped up a busy stretch of its schedule by sweeping Black Hawk 25-12, 25-14, 25-18 in an Arrowhead Conference match Tuesday night at John Lewis Gym.

The Chargers (17-3, 3-1) won their sixth in a row, all in the last four days. Sandburg trailed for just four points in the match against the Braves.

Up 4-3 in the first set, three straight Taylor Wagner kills kicked off an 11-1 stretch that gave Sandburg a 15-4 advantage. The Chargers led 9-6 in the second before winning six of the next seven points to go ahead 15-7. Ayla Cannon had two kills and a block during the burst, and Natalie Burden also had two kills.

Sandburg used another big run in the third to put the match away. Down 4-3, a Cannon kill and ace started a 13-1 stretch for the Chargers.

Wagner finished with a team-best 10 kills and .474 hitting percentage while also serving two aces. Cannon contributed eight kills, two aces and led the chargers with four total blocks, two of which were solos.

Burden ended the night with seven kills and picked up a team-high 14 digs. Olivia Falborg had five kills on nine attacks and recorded three blocks.

Libero Madeline Mooney had 13 digs, and setter Grace Vyhnanek turned in 27 assists. Mooney also had a pair of Sandburg's seven aces in the victory.
