Fahnestock, Hackman help women’s golf take home Charger Invite title

GALESBURG — Led by four scores among the top eight overall, the Sandburg women's golf team started its season by winning the title at the Charger Invite on Saturday at Lake Bracken.

Host Sandburg finished with a total of 381, blowing away Joliet by 73 strokes in the team standings. The Chargers also had two of the top three individual finishers.

Sophomore Kylie Fahnestock was runner-up with a 15-over-par 86, and sophomore Ava Hackman placed third with an 89. The Chargers' other two counting scores came from sophomore Lauren Minkel's seventh-place 101 and Abigail Strode's 105, which tied for eighth in the 23-player field.

Freshman Olivia Orwig tied for 10th with a 106, and freshman Piper Lewis shot 110 to place 14th.

DuPage's Ivy Burnett was medalist with a 9-over 80 to beat Fahnestock by six shots.
