GARDEN CITY, Kan. — The Carl Sandburg College women's golf team made its second national tournament appearance in program history at last week's NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship at Buffalo Dunes.
Sandburg placed 15th in the tournament with a 72-hole total of 1,500. The Chargers opened with a first-round score of 366 on Tuesday, followed by rounds of 370, 373 and 391.

Ellie Wasson and Lainey Jensen were the only Chargers to compete in all four rounds. Wasson finished at 366 for the week to finish 78th, and Jensen shot 376 to place 79th. Wasson's second-round 87 was the lowest of any Sandburg player in the tournament.
The tournament marked the final events for Chargers sophomores Olivia Schwingle and Anna Duden. Schwingle played in each of the first three rounds, shooting an 89 to open the tournament. Duden played the final three days and had a 91 in Thursday's third round.
Sandburg automatically qualified for nationals by winning its first-ever Region IV tournament championship in October. The Chargers' only other trip to nationals came in 2019, when they placed 11th.
Seminole State won the national title with a 1,201 total, beating Daytona State by 22 shots. Seminole State's Pearl Phoncharatkun was the individual national champion, finishing at 8-over par (296) for the week to hold on by a stroke over Odessa's Ailsa Brannock.
Beautiful day to kick this NJCAA National experience off. Had a really good practice round and are ready for the real thing tomorrow. Followed by a nice banquet tonight. Sandburg women always represent with style! pic.twitter.com/kyTqA7ThDl

Rd 1 of the NJCAA National tourney in the books. We fought hard in the 90 degree temps. We were so close to meeting our team goal. I have no doubt, it's happening. Proud coach watched all 5 girls stripe it down the middle on the 1st tee! Anyone who plays golf gets it! ️♀️⛳️ pic.twitter.com/eW0zd0Av5V
