3 Chargers Post Career-Lows in Final Tune-Up Before Nationals

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women's golf team had three players post a career-low round, and the Chargers recorded their best score of the season in the Viking Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Highland Springs.

The Chargers placed seventh in the tournament with a two-day total of 715. Sandburg's score of 354 in Saturday's second round was its best 18-hole score of the year.

The Chargers opened with a 361 on Friday as Lainey Jensen and Anna Duden each carded career-lows of 88. Jensen followed with an 89 on Saturday to be Sandburg's top finisher, tying for 28th. Duden had a 90 on Saturday and tied Ellie Wasson (90-88—178) for 31st.

Addy Trego shot a career-best 87 on Saturday and ended the tournament in 36th place with a total of 182. Olivia Schwingle had rounds of 96 and 101, placing 47th.

Host Augustana won the tournament by 29 shots over Wisconsin-Platteville, finishing with a score of 624. The Vikings' Avery Frick was medalist, shooting 8 over par (79-73—152) on the weekend to win by two strokes over teammate Kelsey O'Connor and St. Ambrose's Katherine Speer.

The tournament was the final tune-up for the Chargers before competing in the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship from May 9-12 at Buffalo Dunes in Garden City, Kan. Sandburg earned its spot into nationals by winning its first Region IV Tournament title in October.
