
Vontz, Kisler each score 18 in Chargers’ wire-to-wire win over Bryant & Stratton
GALESBURG — The Sandburg women's basketball team earned its third straight win with an 80-65 wire-to-wire victory Saturday afternoon over Bryant & Stratton.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers (15-7) jumped to an early 9-4 lead and never looked back. Lillian Covarrubias hit a 3-pointer and added back-to-back buckets to get Sandburg out to an early lead.
• After the Bobcats scored the first six points of the second quarter to make it 23-20, Sandburg went on an 8-0 run thanks to an Antonia Kisler pull-up jumper and consecutive 3s from Covarrubias and Layni Dobbins. Gabbie Vontz's traditional three-point play gave Sandburg a 44-30 lead at halftime, and the Chargers led by double digits the entirety of the second half.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Vontz, coming off a career-best 22 points Thursday at Highland, scored 18 to reach double figures for the third straight contest. The sophomore tied Kisler for the team lead in scoring as she went 4 of 10 from the field, hit a pair of 3s and hit 8 of 13 from the foul line. Vontz added four rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win.
