Chargers drop contest at Blazers despite Kisler's 3rd straight double-double

QUINCY — Freshmen Antonia Kisler and Paige Huffman each turned in season highs in scoring, but the Sandburg women's basketball team saw John Wood pull away down the stretch to beat the Chargers 84-74 on Wednesday night.

The teams went into halftime tied at 36, and Sandburg trailed 62-60 with 26 seconds left in the third quarter after Gabbie Vontz split a pair of free throws. The Blazers' Grace Deters sank three free throws after she was fouled on a 3-point attempt to end the third quarter, and John Wood scored the first four points of the fourth to go up 69-60.

Kisler led all players with 25 points and tied teammate Brook Pieper with a game-best 13 rebounds. It marked the freshman's first 20-point game as a Charger, third straight double-double and fourth in her last five games. Kisler finished 7 of 13 from the field, hit 2 of 4 3-point tries and was 9 for 10 from the line.

Huffman came off the bench to total 17 points while going 6 of 11 from the floor, including a 5-for-10 night from beyond the arc.

Freshman Tiera Hall collected 10 points, six rebounds and eight assists in a reserve role. Hall was 4 of 11 from the field and had five of her six boards on the offensive glass.

Deters' 19 points led John Wood, which also got 15 points and 12 rebounds from Olivia Lawson.
