Ferguson Drops Season-High 26 in Chargers’ OT Loss to Pride

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Capre Ferguson came through with a season-high 26 points, but the Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team fell short 91-87 in overtime Sunday at Clarke JV.

Ferguson blew past her previous best of 18 points — set Dec. 16 vs. DuPage and Jan. 27 at Waubonsee — by going 7 of 15 from the field and 11 of 13 at the foul line in action off the bench. The freshman from Galesburg knocked down a 3-pointer and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss.

After the teams went into halftime tied at 31, the Pride outscored the Chargers 26-18 in the third quarter. Sandburg (16-8), though, responded with a 25-17 edge in the fourth, pushing the game to the Chargers to OT for the third time this season. The Pride outscored Sandburg 17-13 in the extra period.

Sophomore Elly Bentley scored 23 for the Chargers, leaving her just seven points shy of 1,000 in her Sandburg career.

Kelci Shelton had 13 points and a team-best 13 rebounds as she recorded her fifth double-double of the season. Shelton also had five steals, which tied Bentley for the team high, and four assists, matching Brook Pieper for most among Chargers.

Pieper had 11 points, nine boards, four blocks and four assists for Sandburg, which shot 36 percent for the game.
