Sandburg Women Hit Season-High 11 3s in Win at McHenry County

CRYSTAL LAKE — The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team knocked down a season-high 11 3-pointers as it closed the 2023 portion of its schedule with an 85-66 victory at McHenry County on Thursday afternoon.

The Chargers (11-3) jumped out to a double-digit lead after a quarter and finished with six players in double figures in the contest.

Camille Kruse drilled four first-quarter 3s as Sandburg opened up a 25-13 lead after the opening period. The freshman guard finished with 14 points on the day. The Chargers led 46-33 at halftime and hit seven of their treys in the opening 20 minutes.

Freshman forward Brook Pieper had a team-best 15 points in the victory and hit a season-best three triples for Sandburg.

Cruse and Elly Bentley each totaled 14 points, and Capre Ferguson tallied 13. Kelci Shelton scored a dozen, and Gracie Sims hit three 3s on her way to finishing with 11 points.

Thursday marked the second straight game in which Sandburg has set a season-high for 3s in a game. The Chargers hit seven in Saturday's win over DuPage.

Maddie Scharrenberg scored a game-high 24 points for McHenry County.
