Chargers Win 8th in a Row While Handing Lake County 1st Loss of Season

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team avenged its only loss of the season and pushed its winning streak to eight games with a 70-60 victory over previously unbeaten Lake County on Saturday afternoon at John Lewis Gym.

KEY MOMENTS
• Down 24-21 after the first quarter, the Chargers (9-1) opened the second with seven straight points and 10 of the first 12. Brook Pieper keyed the run with consecutive three-point plays for a 31-26 lead that Sandburg wouldn't relinquish.
• Ahead 43-41 midway through the third, Sandburg rattled off a 9-0 run to push its lead to double digits. A pair of Camille Kruse buckets opened the stretch, and Bentley finished it with a coast-to-coast three-point play after Pieper swatted away a Lancers shot.
• Lake County, which came into the contest 10-0 and beat Sandburg 65-61 on Nov. 10, got within five on a pair of occasions in the fourth, but the Chargers hit four free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
After missing the previous two games with an ankle injury, Bentley returned with a game-best 19 points and a career-best 12 rebounds. The sophomore guard was 6 of 17 from the field and hit all seven of her free-throw attempts. Her dozen boards marked the first time she's had double-digit rebounds in her Sandburg career. Bentley also contributed three assists and a steal.
