
Sandburg Women Blow Out Wright 91-29 for 3rd Straight Win
GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team could do no wrong against Wright on Thursday, thumping the Rams 91-29 at John Lewis Gym.
KEY MOMENTS
• Sandburg opened the game with an 11-0 run as Gracie Sims hit a jumper on the first possession. Brook Pieper had a layup and 3-pointer during the run, and Elly Bentley put in a pair of buckets. The Chargers (4-1) closed the quarter with 12 straight points to lead 25-4 after the first.
• Pieper's three-point play highlighted a 9-0 run in the second as Sandburg took a 43-15 lead into halftime. The Chargers scored 22 of the game's final 24 points as they won their third in a row.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Pieper was a force all over the court, scoring 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and pulling in eight rebounds. The freshman forward connected on 2 of 3 3-pointers, had four assists, collected four steals and blocked a pair of shots.

NEARLY A RECORD ON BOTH ENDS
Wright's 29 points marked the fewest the Chargers have allowed in a game in coach Kellen Fernetti's two seasons. The previous low was 38 points allowed to Southeastern in Fernetti's Sandburg debut. Similarly, the Chargers finished a point away from matching their highest scoring output under Fernetti. They scored 92 in a win Feb. 25 last season at Lincoln Trail.
