Bentley’s 26 Points Power Chargers to Win Over IVCC on Sophomore Night

GALESBURG — Elly Bentley put up her 10^th 20-point game of the season — and second in as many nights — as the Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team held on of a 64-62 Sophomore Night win over Illinois Valley on Tuesday night at John Lewis Gym.

KEY MOMENTS
• The 10-0 first-quarter run helped the Chargers to a 19-10 lead after a quarter and a 28-23 advantage at halftime. Bentley started the first-quarter run with a pull-up jumper for a 10-6 lead with 4:00 left. She closed it by finding Sophia Gugliotta and Lilly Isenhour for consecutive layups on out-of-bounds plays.
• Illinois Valley forged four second-half ties — the last at 51-51 with 4:44 to go — but never took the lead. Leading 54-53 with 3:08 to play, Isenhour connected for a three-point play on a putback to help Sandburg hold on.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Bentley finished with a game-high 26 points while going 10 of 24 from the field. The freshman guard went 6 of 8 from the foul line, grabbed six rebounds, handed out six assists and collected four steals.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS
• Isenhour: 14 points, 5 of 11 field goals, 8 rebounds
• Natalie Righi: 11 points, 4 of 6 field goals, 9 rebounds
• Savannah Dominique: 2 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals

SENDING OFF SOPHOMORES
The Chargers honored their five sophomores — Righi, Lily Hudgins, Abbey Donaldson, Addison Eger and Lillianna Blackford — after their final home game. Eger and Blackford, who have missed much of this season because of injuries, were in the starting lineup one final time before being replaced in the opening seconds. Eger had been out since Nov. 12 with a broken ankle, while Blackford hadn't played since Dec. 3 because of a knee injury.
