GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg women's basketball team fell just short in the closing seconds to Augustana JV 72-70 on Monday night at John Lewis Gym.

The Chargers were down 32-23 late in the second quarter, but Lily Hudgins hit a big 3-pointer with 1 minute, 25 seconds left in the quarter. Sophia Gugliotta then ended the half with a layup to give the Chargers a 37-34 lead at halftime.

Tied at 70 in the final seconds, the Vikings scored the game-winner with :01.5 left on a putback by Linnea Johansen.

Six-foot forward Lilly Isenhour, who was named the District A Player of the Week earlier in the day, had another big game for Sandburg, recording team highs of 22 points and 14 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season.

Freshman guard Elly Bentley also had a 20-point night, going 9 of 22 from the field. She also racked up seven rebounds and six assists.

Gugliotta finished the game in double figures with 11 points and had four steals. Hudgins had eight points as she was 2 of 2 from the 3-point line in her first game since Dec. 17 because of a knee injury.
