Bentley’s 28 Points, Sims’ Key 3s Lead Chargers to 3rd Straight Win

OGLESBY — The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball earned its third straight victory with a 51-48 Arrowhead Conference road win at Illinois Valley on Thursday night.

Freshman guard Elly Bentley dominated for the Chargers (7-12, 2-2), scoring a game-high 28 points. Bentley hit 11 shots from the floor and drained 6 of her 8 free-throw attempts on the night. She scored 16 in the second half, with eight points in both the third and fourth quarters. It marked Bentley's eighth straight game scoring in double figures and her seventh 20-point performance on the season.

Gracie Sims added a season-best 11 points for the Chargers, including three 3-pointers. Sims came into the contest having made just a pair of 3s, but she sank one in each of the final three quarters against the Eagles for Sandburg.

Illinois Valley's 48 points were the second-fewest allowed by the Chargers this season. The only better defensive effort this season by the Chargers was their opener against Southeastern when they allowed 38 points.

Sandburg led at the end of each quarter. The Chargers had a 17-9 lead after the first, were up 24-19 at halftime and held a 37-32 advantage entering the fourth.

Natalie Haynes had 17 points to lead the Eagles.
