Isenhour Records 3rd Straight Double-Double for Chargers in Loss to Cougars

GALESBURG — Elly Bentley led all scorers and Lilly Isenhour had a double-double, but Highland held off a second-half run by the Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team to beat the Chargers 81-67 in their Arrowhead Conference opener Tuesday at John Lewis Gym.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Cougars closed each of the first two quarters with runs to lead 50-31 at the break. Sandburg (4-11, 0-1) led 18-16 in the first after a 3-pointer from Dafna Boyarski, but Highland closed the period with nine straight points. A Natalie Righi layup got the Chargers within 38-31 in the second, but the Cougars answered with a 12-0 run before going into the locker room.
• Sandburg trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half but was able to slice Highland's lead to single digits. A 9-2 stretch capped by a Bentley pull-up jumper made it 68-59 with 6:00 to play. The Chargers clawed within 72-65 with 3:30 left after Sophia Gugliotta's long jumper, but Highland answered with nine of the game's final 11 points.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Isenhour finished with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting and pulled in 17 rebounds (11 offensive), just one off her season high. It marked the freshman forward's third consecutive double-double and fifth overall this season. Isenhour is now averaging a double-double for the year, with 11 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest.
