Sandburg Women Shake Off Slow Start to Win in Fernetti’s Debut

GALESBURG — Kellen Fernetti earned a victory in his Carl Sandburg College women's basketball coaching debut as the Chargers fought off a slow start to thump Southeastern 71-38 on Tuesday at John Lewis Gymnasium.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Blackhawks stormed out of the gates, scoring the game's first 11 points in less than 4:30.
• Sandburg battled back to even the score at 13 after the first quarter, and the Chargers took the lead for good on a 10-2 stretch to open the second. Jaden Rodgers started the run with a rebound basket to give Sandburg its first lead, and Lillianna Blackford closed it with back-to-back layups.
• The Chargers scored eight straight to begin the second half to go ahead 37-22, and they built their largest lead at 71-36 behind a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Third-year sophomore Addison Eger scored a team-high 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting. The two-time all-region selection also tied for the team lead with five of the Chargers' 19 steals on the night.
