Ryan, Huffman each have 3-hit games in Chargers' final action on spring break trip

MOBILE, Ala. — The Sandburg softball team took an early lead in Game 2, but the Chargers wrapped up their spring break trip to the Gulf Coast on Wednesday with a pair of losses at Bishop State.

Key moment
The host Wildcats struck for three runs in the bottom of the first, scoring once on a bases-loaded walk and plating two on a triple.

Sandburg standout
Center fielder Bailey Ryan singled in all three of her trips to the plate, collecting half of the Chargers' six hits in the contest.

Key moments
• The Chargers (0-8) had their first six batters of the game reach base as they jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Hannah Pyle's bases-loaded single broke the ice, and Sandburg added single tallies on a Cheyanne Rodgers walk, a Hunter base hit and Alexis Brammeier's sacrifice fly to right.
• Bishop State, though, bounced back with a run in the first, another in the second and took the lead with a three-run third go to up 5-4.

Sandburg standout
Shortstop Paige Huffman went 3 for 3, drew a walk and scored a run. The freshman from Wethersfield High School singled to right field in the first, added a base hit to left in the second, walked in the fifth and singled to right in the seventh.
