Chargers open season with doubleheader at Northwest Florida St.

NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Sandburg softball team started its 2025 season with a doubleheader Saturday at Northwest Florida State.

The host Raiders, who'd already played 34 games entering Saturday, handled the Chargers in both ends of the twinbill as Sandburg played the first of eight games in five days on its spring break trip.

Sandburg standout
Bailey Ryan knocked in Sandburg's lone run with a two-out single in the third. Mary Hellige reached with a one-out base hit, moved to second on Jordyn Climer's single to right and came home as Ryan smacked a base hit to center field.

Sandburg standouts
Tegan Cobb and Climer each came up with RBI hits to account for the Chargers' two fifth-inning runs. Hellige and Jaycee Craig opened the frame with consecutive singles. Cobb brought home Hellige with a line-drive hit to left field, and Climer added an infield single that brought in Craig.
