Chargers fall twice at home to No. 16 Snappers
GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College softball team took an early lead in Game 2, but nationally ranked Spoon River swept both parts of a doubleheader against the Chargers on Wednesday at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Snappers, ranked 16th in NJCAA Division II, collected three runs in the opening inning and tacked on six more in the second for a 9-0 lead.
• Sandburg got on the board in the third as Erin Jackson smacked a leadoff double and scored on an error by the Spoon River first baseman after Elly Bentley's comebacker to the pitcher.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Jackson and Maleaha Nagel each doubled and scored a run while batting in the bottom two spots in the lineup.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers sprung for three two-out runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Bentley led off with a single, and Bailey Ryan followed with a walk. After a strikeout and flyout, Kaitlyn Egenes doubled in both runners with a shot to center. Alexis Brammeier then brought Egenes home with a base hit to center field.
• Spoon River answered with an eight-run second. All the Snappers' runs in the frame were unearned and came with two out in the inning.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Egenes' first-inning double proved to be the Chargers' lone extra-base hit of the contest.

FRIDAY'S GAMES CANCELED
The Chargers' doubleheader scheduled for Friday vs. John Wood has been canceled because the Blazers needed to reschedule a region contest for that day.
