Chargers End Season With Region Quarterfinal Loss at Kankakee

KANKAKEE — Top-seeded Kankakee swept the Carl Sandburg College softball team in Tuesday's Region IV Division II District A quarterfinal.

The Cavaliers took the first two games of the best-of-three series and advanced to this weekend's Region IV finals. The Chargers end their season with a 10-38 record.

KEY MOMENT
Sandburg tallied a pair of first-inning runs as Elly Bentley led off with a walk and later scored on an error in center field. Brooklyn Walker added an RBI single for an early 2-0 lead, but Kankakee sent 14 batters to the plate in a 10-run bottom of the first.

KEY MOMENTS
• Kankakee scored in each of the first four innings to build a 9-2 lead.
• The Chargers got on the board in the fourth as Chelsey Catton scored on a double steal and Bentley singled in Olivia Lewis from second. Maleaha Nagel added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 9-3.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Catton went 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Game 2.
