Nagel Hits 9th HR as Chargers Drop 2 at Highland

FREEPORT — Maleaha Nagel homered and drove in four in Game 2, but the Carl Sandburg College softball team was swept at Highland in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

KEY MOMENT
The Cougars' first three batters reached base with back-to-back singles and a double, and all three came around to score for a quick 3-0 lead for Highland.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Kayla Wolf collected two of the Chargers' four hits in the game, going 2 for 2 with a pair of singles.

KEY MOMENTS
• Sandburg banged out six hits in a four-run first inning. Nagel doubled in a pair of runs to open the scoring, Wolfe had an RBI double two batters later, and Abbi Sammons made it 4-0 with a line-drive single to left.
• The Chargers maintained a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth before Highland rallied with six runs to take its first lead. A double and a triple to open the inning made it 4-3, and the Cougars tied the game two batters later on an outfield error. A pair of run-scoring fielder's choices made it 6-4 before Highland added consecutive two-out RBI singles for an 8-4 lead.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Nagel hit a two-run homer in the seventh to go along with her two-run double in the first. The freshman first baseman finished 2 for 4 for with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored. She has a team-leading nine home runs on the season.
