Wolf's Go-Ahead Double in 6th Helps Chargers Earn Split at Kishwaukee

MALTA — Kayla Wolf's tiebreaking double in the sixth inning of Game 2 keyed a three-run frame and helped the Carl Sandburg College softball team split an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at Kishwaukee on Friday.

The Chargers' doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at Lake County was postponed because of inclement weather.

GAME 1
Kishwuakee 9, Sandburg 0 (5 innings)
Sandburg         000      00        —        0          6          1
Kishwaukee     320      4x        —        9          8          1
L: Chelsey Catton 4 IP, 7 K, 5 BB

KEY MOMENT
Three singles, two walks and an error led to three first-inning runs for the Kougars, which proved to be all the scoring they'd need.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Carley Hacke singled in each of her two at-bats for the Chargers. She was the only member of the Sandburg lineup with multiple hits.

GAME 2
Sandburg 9, Kishwaukee 6
Sandburg         501      003      0          —        9          15        3
Kishwaukee     003      030      0          —        6          5          4
W: Brooklyn Walker 7 IP, 8 K, 4 BB

KEY MOMENTS
Emma Wolfe's RBI double, Maleaha Nagel's two-run single and a pair of runs that scored on Addison DeSpain's grounder to second were the key plays in a five-run first inning for the Chargers.
• Sandburg led 6-0 after its half of the third, but Kishwaukee tied the game with three runs in the third and fifth.
• The Chargers answered with three of their own in the sixth to regain the lead. Reagan Eaves doubled with one out, and Wolf followed with a double to left to put Sandburg ahead. After a fielder's choice and a walk, back-to-back two-out singles from DeSpain and Walker padded the Chargers' lead to 9-6. Walker then retired the last six Kishwaukee batters in order — including striking out the side in the seventh — to put away the victory.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Wolf's go-ahead double was part of a 3-for-5 game for the sophomore catcher. She doubled twice, drove in a run and scored once.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS

• Wolfe: 3 for 5, two doubles, run, RBI
• Nagel: 2 for 5, RBI
Abbi Sammons: Solo home run
