Chargers Drop 2 at Home to Cougars

GALESBURG — Natalie Righi and Brooklyn Walker had a pair of hits in each game, but the Carl Sandburg College softball team was swept by Highland in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader Tuesday at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex

KEY MOMENT
Scoreless into the sixth, the Cougars broke open the scoring with three runs. A leadoff error followed by three straight singles put Highland up 1-0. Left fielder Riley Creasey gunned a runner down at the plate to turn a double play, but the next batter reached on an error that allowed two runners to score.

SANDBURG STANDOUTS
Brooklyn Walker and Natalie Righi each had a pair of hits, including a double. Walker went 2 for 4 out of the leadoff spot, and Righi finished the contest 2 for 3 at the plate.

KEY MOMENTS
• After allowing four runs on five hits in the top of the third, the Chargers put together their own big inning in the bottom half. Creasey singled with one out to start a string of seven Sandburg hits in a row. Walker and Emma Wolfe singled to load the bases before Natalie Righi doubled in two. Maleaha Nagel and Kayla Wolf added RBI base hits to tie the game, and Olivia Lewis pu the Chargers ahead 6-4 with a two-run double to left.
• A three-run homer in the fifth put Highland back ahead as the Cougars tallied six runs in the inning.

SANDBURG STANDOUTS
Righi went 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and a pair of RBIs as the Chargers put up 10 hits in the contest.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS
• Walker: 2 for 3, walk, run
• Wolf: 2 for 3, run, RBI
• Lewis: 1 for 3, double, two RBIs
