Righi has 1st Multi-Homer Game in Loss at No. 19 Snappers

CANTON — Natalie Righi homered twice in Game 1, but 19th-ranked Spoon River took both ends of a doubleheader against the Carl Sandburg College softball team Wednesday.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Snappers did most of their damage in the second, scoring six times on the strength of five doubles and a pair of walks.
• The Chargers got within 9-7 in the seventh as Elly Bentley scored on a wild pitch. Righi was hit by a pitch with two out to bring the tying run to the plate, but pinch hitter Maleaha Nagel lined out to second to end the ballgame.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Righi hit a pair of two-run homers to drive in four of the Chargers' six runs. The sophomore shortstop hit a shot to left for a 2-0 lead in the first, and she added a longball to center in the fifth to bring Sandburg within a run at 7-6. She now has six home runs on the season, and it marked the first multi-homer game of her career.
