Catton, Walker Lead Chargers in Sweep of Skyhawks

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College softball pitchers Chelsey Catton and Brooklyn Walker limited Sauk Valley to just three runs on 10 hits while sweeping the Skyhawks in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

KEY MOMENT
The Chargers quickly answered a first-inning home run from Sauk Valley by putting up four runs in the bottom of the first. Emma Wolfe doubled home Elly Bentley, who led off with a walk. Maleaha Nagel doubled in Wolfe for a 2-1 Chargers lead, and Kayla Wolf added a two-run single two batters later to put Sandburg ahead 4-1.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Chelsey Catton threw a five-inning complete game and went 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs at the plate. Catton allowed just one run on five hits and a walk while fanning four batters.

KEY MOMENT
Up 5-2 in the sixth, Sandburg ended the game via the mercy rule with a five-run inning that saw the last six batters reach safely. Natalie Righi connected for an RBI double, and Brooklyn Walker's grounder to shortstop was misplayed, allowing Righi to score. Wolf doubled to center to plate a run, and Olivia Lewis followed with a two-run double on a drive to left.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Like Catton in Game 1, Brooklyn Walker earned a complete-game victory in the circle and brought home a pair of runs at the plate. Walker allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six Skyhawks. In the batter's box, she finished 3 for 4 with a double, a run scored and two driven in.
