Chargers Split With Waubonsee, Open Postseason Tuesday at Kankakee

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College softball team wrapped up its regular season by splitting a doubleheader with Waubonsee on Saturday at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

The Chargers (15-27) will open the Region IV Division II District B tournament with a best-of-three quarterfinal series at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kankakee. Sandburg received the No. 7 seed, while the Cavaliers are seeded second. All three games in the series will be played Tuesday. The winner advances to the regional finals to be played Saturday and Sunday at Highland.

Key Moment
The Chargers used five first-inning singles to account for three runs. Kayla Wolf (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) drove in a pair with a base hit to right. Blanchard followed one batter later with an RBI fielder's choice for an early 3-0 lead.

Sandburg Standout
Brooklyn Walker (Burnside, Ill./Warsaw) kept the Chiefs off the board, shutting them out on just six hits. She issued three walks and struck out four. Waubonsee put seven runners in scoring position but was unable to push a run across. Center fielder Gracie Rademacker (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) gunned down a runner at the plate in the third to preserve the shutout.
