Blanchard Totals 6 RBIs in Chargers’ Split at Sauk Valley

DIXON — Gabby Blanchard (South Pekin, Ill./Pekin) had a pair of three-RBI games as the Carl Sandburg College softball team split an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at Sauk Valley on Thursday.

The afternoon also included the completion of the teams' game at Sandburg on April 5 that was suspended because of darkness. The Skyhawks led that game 25-10 in the top of the sixth at the point of suspension, and the game was completed Thursday with that final score in six innings.

Key Moment
Trailing 4-2 after three innings, the Chargers (13-17, 7-9) scored nine unanswered runs, including a four-run fourth to take the lead for good. Emma Wolfe (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) drove in a run with an RBI single, Blanchard put the Chargers up 5-4 with a two-run double to left and Kayla Wolf (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) followed with an RBI hit to make it 6-4.

Sandburg Standout
Blanchard knocked in three runs while going 3 for 5 with a double and a pair of runs scored as Sandburg collected 17 hits (16 of them singles) in the game.

• Down 9-8 in the sixth, the Chargers tied the game as Wolfe doubled with one out to left and Blanchard drove her in with a two-out base hit to right field.
• The Skyhawks walked off with the victory on a leadoff home run to center in the bottom of the seventh.

Sandburg Standout
Wolfe doubled three times as part of a 4-for-4 game. The Chargers hurler scored four runs, stole a base and knocked in a run.
