
Jepngetich, Kiprotich each 6th for Chargers at Skyhawk Invitational
DIXON — Joan Jepngetich and Mathias Kiprotich each placed sixth overall as the Sandburg cross country teams competed at the Sauk Valley Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday.
Jepngetich's sixth-place time of 21 minutes, 35 seconds helped the Chargers women's team to a second-place showing in the 5-kilometer race. Right behind Jepngetich in seventh was Linda Koech, in 21:40. Sophomores Sharon Yego and Damaris Kimaiyo placed 11th and 12th, respectively, with Yego crossing in 22:44 and Kimaiyo just one second behind her.
Sandburg finished with 59 points in the six-team women's standings. The Chargers were runner-up to Grand Rapids, which swept the top three spots and had 25 points.
In the men's 8K, Kiprotich finished in 31:40 to pace Sandburg. Titus Kimutai (33:04) and Mathew Kotut (33:17) were 12th and 13th for the Chargers. Sandburg placed fourth in the men's event with 72 points.
Host Sauk Valley won the men's title with 27 points as the Skyhawks had the second-, third- and fourth-place finishers. Waubonsee's David Valkanov won the men's race is 28:23, finishing 1:38 ahead of second place.
