Chargers Sweep Team, Individual Titles at Arrowhead Conference XC Championships

DIXON — The Carl Sandburg College cross country teams swept the team and individual titles at the Arrowhead Conference Championships on Saturday on the campus of Sauk Valley Community College.

Babra Viola Jepkirui took home the individual women's title, while Emmanuel Kiprop led five Chargers in the top six in the men's race as each won for the second straight week.

Jepkirui won the women's 5K in 21:28.38, finishing well ahead of the 22:15.59 time posted by runner-up Kylie Van Schnase of Kishwaukee. Faith Kiprop took sixth in 23:19.35 for the Chargers, and teammate Dayanna Ortiz was just behind her in seventh place at 24:35.64. Sandburg was the only school to field a full team in the women's division.

In the men's 8K, Emmanuel Kiprop's time of 27:12.77 dominated the field as he won by more than a minute over teammate Calton Kibet, who was second in 28:18.64. Sandburg's Kennedy Korir was third in 29:32.36.

The Chargers easily took home the men's title with 17 points, beating Kishwaukee's 44. Nicholas Janson was fifth overall in 30:05.76, and Brian Kipchemis sixth for Sandburg in 31:19.07.
