Jepkirui, Kiprop Post Wins for Chargers at Sauk Valley Invite
GALESBURG — Babra Viola Jepkirui and Emmanuel Kiprop each claimed victories for the Carl Sandburg College cross country teams on Saturday at the Sauk Valley Skyhawk Invitational.
Jepkirui blew away in the field in the 5-kilometer women's race with a time of 21:42.44. She finished :53 ahead of runner-up Kylie Von Schnase of Kishwaukee. Faith Kiprop also finished in the top five for Sandburg, taking fifth in 24:08.38.
The Chargers had five of the top six finishers in the 8K men's race, including winner Kiprop and runner-up Calton Kibet. Kiprop crossed the line in 27:08.44, nearly a minute of Kibet's 28:07.42.
Sandburg's Nicholas Janson was fourth overall in 30:37.15. The Chargers' other two scores came from Brian Kipchemis in fifth place (31:13.77) and Nicholas Seaver in sixth (31:29.99). Sandburg, ranked 12th nationally, totaled 18 points to win the team championship over Kishwaukee, which had 38 points.
