Chargers Run Against Strong Field at Bradley Intercollegiate

PEORIA — The Carl Sandburg College cross country teams turned in solid performances against a strong field that included multiple NCAA Division I programs at the Bradley Intercollegiate on Friday at Detweiller Park.

Led by Emmanuel Kiprop's 22nd-place showing in 25:04.1, the Chargers men's team took seventh with 175 points, finishing ahead of Division II McKendree and Division III Monmouth. Calton Kibet also had a strong race for Sandburg, taking 32nd in 26:35.7. The Chargers' other scores in the 8-kilometer race came from Nick Janson (56th, 28:54.8), Brian Kipchemis (59th, 29:09.9) and Nick Seaver (64th, 30:25.4).

Sandburg's women's squad finished in eighth place with 209 points, beating out Division I Chicago State. Babra Viola Jepkirui led the way for Sandburg in the 5K with a 36th-place finish in 21:53.7. Faith Kiprop was 46th in 23:22.0, and Dayanna Ortiz was next across the line in 47th at 24:21.1.
