MALTA — Valentin Kretschmer's go-ahead goal in the second half helped the Sandburg men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Kishwaukee on Wednesday afternoon.
The Chargers (10-2-3) won their fifth in a row and remained unbeaten in their last seven contests after putting together three unanswered goals against the Kougars.
Kishwaukee got on the board in the 18th minute, but the Chargers evened it on Luis Garcia's goal in the 39th minute off an assist from Jaime Martin Caballero.
It remained tied well into the second half before Diego Branco Martinez fed Kretschmer for the tiebreaking goal in the 70th minute. Enrico Augusto Rola added a score in the 80th minute with an assist from Garcia to give Sandburg some late insurance.
Lucas Sa de Albuquerque Maranhao stopped seven of eight Kougars shots on goal to get the win in net for the Chargers.
Sandburg finished with 20 total shots and had seven attempts on goal. The Chargers collected three corner kicks in each half.
Sandburg's 1-0 deficit Wednesday marked the first time the Chargers had trailed since Sept. 22 against Heartland, a span of 398 minutes over six games.
