GALESBURG — Luis Garcia recorded a hat trick for his third straight multi-goal game as the Sandburg men's soccer team routed Black Hawk 6-0 on Thursday afternoon at Kleine Field.
Garcia tallied goals in the third, 48th and 80th minutes for the Chargers (8-2-3), who were playing their final home match of the regular season. The hat trick was Garcia's second in the last three contests. He had five goals on Sept. 25 at Wisconsin-Whitewater at Rock County and a pair in Sandburg's Sept. 30 win over Kennedy-King. For the season, the freshman is up to 14 goals in 11 games.
Rodrigo De la Fuente gave Sandburg a 2-0 lead in the 15th minute by converting a penalty after the Braves were whistled for a handball in the box. The goal was De la Fuente's team-leading 19th of the season, which is good for fourth nationally. He also assisted on Sandburg's other two goals that weren't scored by Garcia.
Enrico Augusto Rola poked in a goal for a 3-0 lead in the 35th minute after De la Fuente needled his way deep into the box and made a centering pass. De la Fuente also set up Valentin Kretschmer for a tap-in goal in the 60th minute.
Lucas Sa da Albuquerque Maranhao stopped all seven Black Hawk shots on net to keep a clean sheet.
The Chargers had 11 shots on goal in the victory.
Sandburg, again receiving votes in this week's NJCAA Division II rankings, won its third in a row and has outscored its opponents 43-0 during the streak. The Chargers are unbeaten in their last five contests, going 4-0-1.
