Not a typo: Chargers put up 27 goals in road win over Warhawks

JANESVILLE, Wis. — The Sandburg men's soccer team had 11 players score goals — including seven from Rodrigo De la Fuente and six from Luis Garcia — in a 27-0 thrashing of UW-Whitewater at Rock County on Wednesday afternoon.

While unofficial, it's believed that De la Fuente's seven goals and the Chargers' 27 tallies are single-game school records. Jaime Martin Caballero's seven assists in the match also are believed to be a single-game Sandburg record.

Sandburg (6-2-3), among others receiving votes in this week's NJCAA Division II rankings, put up 14 first-half goals against the Warhawks.

De la Fuente got the Chargers on the board in the third minute, and he added to his goal count in the 15th, 21st, 27th, 43rd, 61st and 69th minutes. De la Fuente also had three assists to his name.

Garcia finished with six goals and six assists in the victory, scoring in the seventh, 16th, 19th, 46th, 53rd and 59th minutes.

Caballero had a hat trick in addition to his seven assists. He tallied goals in the 24th, 48th and 64th minutes.

Arthur Dias, Diego Soto Reyes and Mario Segura each scored twice, giving the Chargers six players with multi-goal performances.

Felipe Santos Novaes, Felipe Endo Dos Santos, Felipe Sousa Garcia, Rodolfo Gabriel Pereira Batisti and Alberto Fernandez Do Carmo each had one goal for Sandburg.

In addition to Caballero, Garcia and De la Fuente, the Chargers got assists from Segura (three), Do Carmo (two), Reyes (two), Gabriel Barros Lima, Sousa Garcia and Batisti. Sandburg totaled 40 shot attempts in the contest.

Mario Gonzalez Luena kept a clean sheet in net for the Chargers.
