GALESBURG — Harper had a flurry of goals early in the second half to pull away from the Sandburg men's soccer team 5-1 in a Region 4 match Monday afternoon at Kleine Field.
Down 1-0 in the 40th minute, Rodrigo De la Fuente pulled the Chargers (4-2-2) even as he took a pass from Jamie Martin Caballero and buried a left-footed shot inside the right post.
De la Fuente's goal was his team-leading sixth of the season, all of which have come in the last six games. The sophomore also leads Sandburg with 15 points on the year.
The Hawks regained the lead early in the second half as Ethan Knapp scored in the 47th minute following a Sandburg turnover. Harper quickly extended its lead in the 52nd minute as the Chargers were whistled for a foul in the box, and Stefan Kokovic converted the penalty. The Hawks scored again just 17 seconds later as Knapp scored on a breakaway following a Sandburg giveaway.
A Harper goal in the 70th minute accounted for the final score.
