Chargers rout Malcolm X 6-1 to remain unbeaten

GALESBURG — Rodrigo De la Fuente and Alberto Fernandez Do Carmo each scored twice as the Sandburg men's soccer team handled Malcolm X 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at Kleine Field.

The Chargers (3-0-2) remained unbeaten on the season as they tallied three goals in each half.

Luis Garcia opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a shot from the left corner of the box off an assist from Mario Segura. In the 23rd minute, Segura notched his second assist of the day, sending a pass to De la Fuente, who poked a shot through the middle for a 2-0 lead. It marked the third straight game with a goal for De la Fuente.

In the 33rd minute, Fernandez Do Carmo came in from the right side after a free kick and hammered home his first Sandburg goal to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

The Chargers continued to pour it on in the second half as Jaime Martin Caballero chipped a pass from the right side of the box into the middle, and Valentin Kretschmer put it away from a 4-0 lead.

After the Hawks got on the board in the 65th minute to make it 4-1, De la Fuente and Fernandez Do Carmo each scored their second goal of the match to close out the victory. Fernandez Do Carmo assisted on De la Fuente's second goal, giving him five total points in the contest.

Mario Gonzalez Luena got the win in goal for Sandburg, making two saves on three Malcolm X shots on goal.
