De la Fuente scores in Chargers' 1-1 draw with Triton

GALESBURG — The Sandburg men's soccer team surrendered its first goal of the year but still managed a 1-1 draw with Triton on Saturday afternoon at Kleine Field.

The Chargers (1-0-2) got on the board first with a beautiful goal from Rodrigo De la Fuente in the 20th minute. After taking a pass on the right wing from Mario Segura, De la Fuente cut to his left and near the corner of the box fired a shot off his left foot that curled inside the right post.

The Trojans pulled even in the 37th minute on an unassisted goal from Rambert Ramos. The goal was the first of the year allowed by the Chargers, who'd gone the first 217 minutes without conceding.

Sandburg's best scoring chance the rest of the way came in the 74th minute as Segura banged a shot off the left post.

Triton had multiple opportunities to pull ahead in the final minutes. In the 88th minute, the Trojans put a shot off the crossbar, and Sandburg's Caio Olivera blocked away a shot on the rebound. The Chargers also had to survive a Triton free kick near the box in the final 5 seconds.

Making his first appearance this season in net for the Chargers, Mario Gonzalez Luena stopped seven of six Trojans shots on goal.

Sandburg had 12 shot attempts in the match, with six on frame.
