Chargers play to 0-0 draw with No. 18 Rock Valley

GALESBURG — The Sandburg men's soccer team played 18th-ranked Rock Valley to a 0-0 draw Wednesday afternoon at Kleine Field in the Chargers' home opener.

The Chargers, looking to avenge a loss to the Golden Eagles in the semifinals of last year's Region 4 tournament, couldn't break through offensively while putting five shots on frame.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Sa de Albuquerque Maranhao kept a clean sheet for the second game in a row, stopping all 10 Rock Valley shots on goal. He and the Chargers have yet to concede through 180 minutes of play this season.

Luis Garcia had two of Sandburg's five shots on goal. The Chargers had eight total shots in the match. Sandburg's closest threat came in the 52nd minute as Mario Segura sent a half-volley toward the net, but his shot floated over the top of the goal.

The Golden Eagles had two shots that went off the woodwork. The first banged off the crossbar in the 34th minute, and they hit the left post off a shot from the right side of the box in the 74th minute.
