Sandburg men’s soccer opens with 2-0 win at Iowa Central

FORT DODGE, Iowa — The Sandburg men's soccer team tallied a goal in each half as the Chargers came away with a 2-0 road victory in their season opener Saturday afternoon at Iowa Central.

Luis Garcia broke the ice in the 30th minute with a header off an assist from Alberto Fernandez Do Carmo.

Still up 1-0 in the 70th minute, Sandburg doubled its lead as Valentin Kretschmer put one by the Iowa Central keeper from a Rodrigo De la Fuente assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Sa de Albuquerque Maranhao preserved the victory by making five saves — four in the second half — and keeping a clean sheet for the Chargers.

Sandburg totaled 12 shots in the contest and had seven corner kicks.

SCRIMMAGE CANCELED
The Chargers' scrimmage scheduled for Monday night against Knox has been canceled.
