EAST MOLINE — Murillo Campos Costa and Saul Etienne tallied first-half goals and the Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team held on for a 2-1 victory at Black Hawk on Tuesday afternoon.
The win snapped a brief two-game skid for the Chargers, who improved to 7-3-2 overall this season and 4-2-1 in Region 4 play.
Costa notched the first goal of the match in the 30th minute on an assist from Vinicios Goncalves Sartorello, and Etienne doubled Sandburg's lead in the 40th minute off a pass from Mario Segura Munoz.
The Braves got on the board in the 70th minute behind Miguel Kruppe-Vargas' unassisted goal, but Sandburg's back line stood tall for the remainder of the match.
Chargers keeper Jack Oliver made three saves as he picked up his first victory of the season in net.
Sandburg finished with 12 shots in the match, with five going on frame. Etienne and Munoz each had a team-best three attempts, with Etienne putting all of his on goal.
