Chargers Drop 4-1 Contest at Home to Chiefs

GALESBURG — Waubonsee struck for three second-half goals to break a halftime tie and defeat the Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team 4-1 in a Region 4 contest Saturday at Kleine Field.

The Chargers (6-2-2) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half as Saul Etienne put away a loose ball following a corner kick by Gabriel Barros Lima in the 17th minute.

Waubonsee, though, scored four unanswered goals, including a hat trick from Daniel Avila. Avila tied the game by converting a penalty in the 28th minute, and he gave the Chiefs the lead in the 50th minute with a shot in the box that found the top left corner.

Eric Anderson extended Waubonsee's lead to 3-1 in the 74th minute with an unassisted goal before Avila completed his hat trick in the 85th minute for a 4-1 Chiefs advantage.

In addition to scoring Sandburg's lone goal of the match, Etienne had three of the Chargers' five shots on goal. Sandburg had 13 shot attempts in the contest. Waubonsee had 14, with seven of them on frame.
