Late Goal by No. 11 Southeastern Deals Chargers 1st Loss of Season

BURLINGTON, Iowa — The Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team pulled even in the second half but suffered its first loss of the season with a 3-2 defeat Saturday afternoon at No. 11 Southeastern.

The host Blackhawks struck for back-to-back goals in the 21st and 22nd minutes, ending the Chargers' season-opening shutout streak at 291 minutes.

Southeastern maintained its 2-0 edge into halftime before Sandburg (2-1-1) rallied. Off a corner kick by Gabriel Barros Lima in the 49th minute, Jean Pierre Cabezas found the back of the net to get the Chargers on the board and cut their deficit in half.

Sandburg got the equalizer in the 66th minute as Saul Etienne fed Mario Segura Munoz, evening the match at 2-2.

But the Blackhawks scored the game-winner in the 85th minute with Diego Lozano putting one away from Foslyn Grant to give Southeastern a 3-2 victory.

The Chargers had 16 shots, with five of them on frame. Southeastern put 10 shots on goal as Sandburg keeper Jack Oliver made seven saves.
