
Robertson’s 79 leads Chargers in spring season opener
NORMAL — Colby Robertson tied for eighth overall and the Sandburg men's golf team placed eighth as a team as the Chargers opened the spring season at the Cougar Spring Shootout on Friday at Weibring Golf Club.
Faced with windy conditions throughout the round, Robertson posted an 8-over-par 79. His day included eight pars as well as birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-5 13th holes.
It marked the fifth round in the 70s this season for the freshman from Illini West. Robertson finished one shot back of a tie for sixth, two out of a tie for fourth and three back of the runners-up.
Tanner Wake came in with a 1-over 81 for the Chargers, tying for 18th. Logan Beers had an 87, and Sam Cory shot a 93 for Sandburg's final counting scores.
Sandburg finished at 340 as a team, one shot back of seventh-place Illinois College and two behind Danville Area for sixth. Sixteen teams competed in the tournament.
Parkland won with a team score of 310, beating host Illinois Central by three shots. Parkland's Isaac Molloy was medalist with a 1-over 72 to win by four.
