Phillips Shoots Even-Par 72, Takes 2nd at Region IV Preview
BYRON — Clayton Phillips shot a season-low 72 and finished second in a scorecard playoff for the Carl Sandburg College men's golf team as the Chargers competed in the Region IV Preview on Friday at PrairieView.
Phillips, coming off a 2-over-par 74 the day before at the IW Tiger Classic, shot an even-par 72 in Friday's tournament. He tied Hank Sogge of Alexandria Tech for the best round of the day, but Sogge won an eight-hole scorecard tiebreaker to claim medalist honors.
The Chargers finished with a 318 total to take fifth in the tournament. Calvin Peterson joined Phillips in the 70s with a round of 79. Owen Sipka had an 81 and Tyler Picken an 86 for the Chargers' remaining two scorers.
Led by Sogge's 72 and a 2-over-74 from teammate Jayme French, Alexandria Tech won with an even 300 total. Bryant & Stratton was runner-up at 306 as 13 teams competed.
