Sipka, Theleritis Post 77s, Chargers Tie for 2nd at Skyhawk Invite
DEER GROVE — Owen Sipka and Cooper Theleritis each posted 77s as the Carl Sandburg College men's golf team tied for second at the Skyhawk Invite on Tuesday at Deer Valley.
Theleritis shot 38 on the opening nine holes and Sipka closed with a back-nine 37 as both players finished at 6 over par for the day to lead the Chargers. Clayton Phillips carded an 80 and Tyler Picken added an 81 for Sandburg's fourth score.
The Chargers finished with a 315, tying Black Hawk for second place. Highland won the tournament with a 298 total. Sauk Valley (338) was fourth and Rock Valley (352) fifth.
Highland's Oskar Akerlind was medalist with a 1-over 72 for the day.
The scheduled two-round tournament was shortened to 18 holes after Monday's first round was canceled because of unplayable conditions.
