Heffren’s hot stretch helps Chargers push win streak to 7

GALESBURG — Tyler Heffren went on a 3-point barrage late in the first half and the Sandburg men's basketball team earned its seventh straight win as it ran away from Monmouth JV 82-58 on Wednesday night.

KEY MOMENTS
• Up 31-30 with 3 minutes left in the opening half, Heffren connected on three consecutive 3-pointers to lead a 14-2 Chargers (16-8) burst to end the period. Freshman Ralph Wires added a trey of his own and hit a layup at the buzzer to give Sandburg a 45-32 advantage at the half.
• Leading 55-39 early in the second, the Chargers scored 13 of the next 15 points to blow the game open. Larry Olivier Jr. had three buckets during that stretch, helping Sandburg to a 68-41 cushion.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Heffren totaled 24 points to lead all players in the contest. The freshman from Eureka was 9 of 13 overall from the field and connected on 5 of 9 3-point tries. His five treys were one shy of matching his most in a contest this season.

All 10 Chargers players who suited up recorded at least one field goal, the first time that's happened this season. Tanner Sedam's triple with 3:15 to go got every Sandburg player into the scoring column.
