
Chargers’ win streak hits 5 as Heffren scores 18 against Blackhawk Tech
GALESBURG — The Sandburg men's basketball team scored the game's final six points to hold off Blackhawk Tech 79-69 on Saturday and give the Chargers their fifth straight victory.
KEY MOMENTS
• Down 20-14 in the first half, back-to-back-3-pointers from Camron Williams ignited a 12-0 run for the Chargers (14-8), who never trailed after that point. Sandburg closed the first half with seven of the final nine points for a 42-34 lead.
• Freshman Tyler Heffren drained consecutive 3s from each corner to give the Chargers a 55-43 lead with 15:00 to go. A 6-0 run featuring buckets from Davante Bradford, Ethan Price and Logan Sluder left Sandburg up 66-55 with 9:25 to play.
• The Talons didn't go away and trailed 73-69 with 3:10 to go, but the Chargers held them scoreless the rest of the way. A Heffren rebound basket and layups from Sluder and Ralph Wires helped Sandburg salt away the victory.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Heffren led all players with 18 points as he went 7 of 12 from the field and hit 4 of 6 3-point tries. The freshman from Eureka also corralled eight rebounds and had three assists.
