Price’s putback dunk sets tone in Chargers’ win over Illinois Valley

GALESBURG — Ethan Price started the night with a dunk and ended it with team highs in points and rebounds, leading the Sandburg men's basketball team to an 86-74 Arrowhead Conference win over Illinois Valley on Thursday night.

Price opened the scoring with a putback slam after a Logan Sluder steal as Sandburg went on to win its third straight game. Down 6-4 in the early going, the Chargers (12-8, 2-0) went on an 18-0 run and never trailed again. Freshman Camron Williams keyed the stretch with a pair of 3-pointers, helping Sandburg to a 44-25 halftime lead. The Chargers went on to lead by as many as 22 points.

Price finished with 17 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. He also pulled in 11 rebounds and had two steals as he earned his fifth double-double of the season.

Tyler Heffren tallied 16 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers. Sluder ended with 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting and a 5-for-6 night at the line. The sophomore guard also led the Chargers with three assists.

Point guard Ralph Wires, coming off a near triple-double in Tuesday's win at Kishwaukee, had 11 points and five rebounds for Sandburg.

The Chargers shot 53 percent from the field, going 30 of 57. Sandburg was 23 of 33 on shots inside the arc. IVCC, meanwhile, was limited to 38 percent (24 of 64) from the field.
