
Wires finishes assist away from triple-double in Chargers’ win at Kishwaukee
MALTA — Ralph Wires wound up an assist away from a triple-double as the Sandburg men's basketball team opened its Arrowhead Conference schedule with a 74-54 win at Kishwaukee on Tuesday night.
The Chargers (11-8, 1-0) ran away from the Kougars in the second half, outscoring them 45-26 after taking a 29-28 lead into halftime.
Wires led the way for Sandburg, totaling 10 points to go with season-bests of 10 rebounds and nine assists. The freshman point guard from Quincy also contributed two steals and hit 4 of 5 shots from the foul line.
Three other Chargers joined Wires in reaching double figures. Logan Sluder hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 15 points. Freshman Matt Bockman tallied 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals on 4-of-6 shooting. Sophomore Ethan Price finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Sandburg held Kishwaukee to a 29 percent mark from the floor (18 of 62) and 19 percent from beyond the arc (6 of 32).
The Chargers, meanwhile, finished at 46 percent shooting on the night (26 of 56), including 15 for 28 in the second half (54 percent).
