Chargers ride hot 1st half, Olivier’s 17 points to win over McHenry County

GALESBURG — Larry Olivier Jr. delivered 17 points off the bench, and the Sandburg men's basketball team turned in a dynamic first-half performance in its 84-71 win over McHenry County on Tuesday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS
• Back-to-back buckets for the Scots left the Chargers (8-6) with a 7-6 lead in the opening minutes before Sandburg scored nine straight points and 21 of the next 22. Logan Sluder opened the run with consecutive layups, and Ralph Wires found Camron Williams for a 3-pointer with 8:05 to play in the first half to give the Chargers a 28-7 lead. Sandburg went on to take a 43-19 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
• McHenry County managed to climb within 10 at 71-61 with just under 4:00 to go, but Davante Bradford fed Matt Bockman on a backdoor pass for a three-point play with 3:41 left to help the Chargers salt away the victory.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Olivier drilled three first-half 3-pointers as he scored a season-best 17 points in the contest. The freshman from Rock Island was 7 of 12 from the floor and 3 for 7 from beyond the arc. He also had three rebounds. It marked Olivier's first double-digit outing since his previous season-high of 15 points on Nov. 9 at Oakton.
