
Price’s 21 points help power Chargers to win at John Wood
QUINCY — The Sandburg men's basketball team built a big halftime lead and held on for a 73-67 win at John Wood on Wednesday night.
The Chargers (5-5) had a 19-18 lead near the midpoint of the opening half before going on a 13-0 run in just over 3 minutes. Ethan Price, Logan Sluder and Camron Williams each knocked down a 3-pointer during the run.
Sandburg led 42-25 at the break after finishing with eight first-half 3s and committing just two turnovers.
John Wood trailed just 68-65 after Cachao Gianquinto Jr.'s layup with 2:02 to go, but Price followed with a pair of free throws on Sandburg's next possession to hold off the Blazers down the stretch.
Price tied for game-high honors with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting. The sophomore was 3 of 5 from beyond the arc and made 4 of 5 foul shots. It marked his second straight 21-point outing and was one from matching his career high.
Sluder totaled 18 points for Sandburg on 7-of-14 shooting. The sophomore guard hit a pair of 3s in addition to collecting seven assists and six steals.
Freshman Tyler Heffren was 4 of 10 from the floor, which included two 3s as part of his 10 points on the night.
Chargers freshman Ralph Wires, a Quincy High School product, had five points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal while starting in his first game back in his hometown with about 60 friends and family in attendance.
John Wood's Jakeb Wallingford had 21 points and a game-best 14 rebounds while shooting 9 of 12.
